Nuclear Force from String Theory

چکیده
We compute nuclear force in a holographic model of QCD on the basis of a D4-D8 brane configuration in type IIA string theory. Repulsive core of nucleons is quite important in nuclear physics, but its origin has not been well-understood in strongly-coupled QCD. We find that string theory via gauge/string duality deduces this repulsive core at short distance between nucleons. Since baryons in the model are realized as solitons given by Yang-Mills instanton configuration on flavor D8-branes, ADHM construction of two instantons probes well the nucleon interaction at short scale, which provides the nuclear force quantitatively. We obtain, as well as a tensor force, a central force which is strongly repulsive as suggested in experiments and lattice results. In particular, the nucleon-nucleon potential V (r) (as a function of the distance) scales as r−2, which is peculiar to the holographic model. We compare our results with one-boson exchange model using the nucleon-nucleon-meson coupling obtained in our previous paper [6].

Investigation of strong force influence on behavior of nuclear energy levels in Calcium and Titanium isotopes: Based on quantum chaos theory
The atomic nucleus is a complex many-body system that consists of two types of fermion (neutron and proton). They are in the strong interaction. The statistical properties of energy levels and influence of strong force between these fermions are well described by random matrix theory. Resonance of energy levels depends on the Hamiltonian symmetry placed in one of the GOE, GUE and GSE ensembles ...
متن کاملString Theory
String theory arose in the late 1960s in an attempt to understand the strong nuclear force. This is the force that holds protons and neutrons together inside the nucleus of an atom. The strong nuclear force also hold quarks and gluons together inside the neutron and proton. Strongly interacting particles, such as the proton and neutron, are called hadrons. 3 4 A correct theory must incorporate ...

The string theory is a fast moving subject, both physics wise and in the respect of mathematics. In order to keep up with the discipline it is important to move with new ideas which are being stressed. Here I wish to give extracts from new papers of ideas which I have recently found interesting. There are six papers which are involved: I ."Strings formulated directly in 4 dimensions " A. N...

We propose a QCD based many-body model for the nucleus where the strong coupling regime is controlled by a three body string force and the weak coupling regime is dominated by a pairing force. This model operates effectively with a quark-gluon Lagrangian containing a pairing force from instantons and a baryonic string term which contains a confining potential. The unified model for weak and str...

We conjecture that M-theory compactified on an ALE space (or K3) is described by 0-branes moving on the ALE space. We give evidence for this by showing that if we compactify another circle, we recover string theory on the ALE space. This guarantees that in the large N limit, the matrix model correctly describes the force law between gravitons moving in an ALE background. We also show the appear...
